A 1990s independent house reworked into an open, light-filled family home with a timber spine wall.

The brief

The owners, a couple with two school-going children, had lived in the house for twenty years. The rooms were small, dark and separated by corridors, and storage had been added piecemeal over the years.

They wanted a home that felt open without losing the quiet corners the family relied on, and a kitchen that could handle daily cooking for six.

Our approach

We took down two non-structural walls to join the living, dining and kitchen, and ran a single teak-veneer wall through the house to carry storage, the TV and a concealed pantry door.

Bedrooms were kept compact and calm: upholstered headboards, full-height wardrobes, and a dark accent wall in the main bedroom for sleep.

  • Wardrobes & storage wall
